In 1440, the first official deck of cards was printed by a German man named Johann Gutenberg. Little did he know that his small donation to the world would have such a huge impact on future generations. It is generally agreed that the first roots of blackjack appeared during the 17th century in France, where a game called Vingt En Un was played in French casinos. The Spanish game "One and Thirty" had similarities to Blackjack, though the desired total was 31 rather than 21, and the game was played with 3 cards instead of 2. The game was still termed '21' when it gained popularity in Nevada in 1931 as the State first chose to make gambling legal.  In the mid-1990s, software developers began creating computerized blackjack games that could be played via the internet.  Now, anyone with a computer, an internet connection and a credit card can play blackjack online at any time, day or night. Gambling online, including blackjack online for real money, is illegal in some jurisdictions, so be aware of the situation where you live before deciding to play. The UK The Gambling Commission was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain. There were over 140 land-based casinos in operation, when the Gambling Act 2005 came into force on 1 September 2007. All current casinos in Great Britain were established under previous legislation. In addition there are a number of premises which, although licensed, are not currently operating as casinos.
